Movies from around 2000

Been in the mood for movies i enjoyed from around 2000.  For me, it was the time right after college, during first real-job, just before social media and smart phones, and 9-11.

Trying to define the vibe or what actually unifies this vibe?   It’s a mix of post-Clinton-era cynicism, pre-9/11 tone, and MTV-era pacing.

  • High Fidelity (2000)
  • Ghost World (2001)
  • Detroit Rock City (1999)
  • Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
  • Road Trip (2000)
  • Super Troopers (2001)
  • Coyote Ugly (2000)
  • Office Space (1999)
  • Mystery Men (1999)
  • Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
  • Orange County (2002)
  • Saving Silverman (2001)
  • Me, Myself & Irene (2000)

Landman ringtone

In the television series
Landman, Tommy Norris (played by Billy Bob Thornton) uses a jarring, dramatic ringtone for his ex-wife, Angela (Ali Larter).
  • Song Title: The ringtone is a snippet of a track called "Final Escape" (also sometimes referred to as "Heavenly Bodies").
  • Composer: It was composed by Nicholas Carras.
  • Original Source: The music originates from the soundtrack of the 1958 science fiction film Missile to the Moon.
The ringtone is intended to be startling and ominous, reflecting Tommy's "scary" perception of his ex-wife when she calls him, often via FaceTime
